Tucker is a very sweet shy loving little guy, while Rosie on the other hand is full of herself. Jesse is a typical lab,meaning an overgrown lap dog.....lol
Was the arrival of your Pet Kid(s) planned or is there a story?
The cats came from friends, The dogs were all chosen by me "mom". Tucker was actually for my eldest daughter, and supposed to be a Great Dane. I talked her into a shih-tzu,(never having been a small dog person so I don't know why) anyways he chose me as his person,and I have fallen hard for the little guy. Rosie is mine also, a gift from my hubby and couldn't be more opposite then Tucker in everyway.

DUMPED PUPPIES AND KITTENS

Lately I have had an unbelievable number of calls about puppies and kittens that have been dumped on someone’s property. Either singles or litters dumped with or without their mothers. Besides the fact this is against the law everywhere, this is not the answer to the problem. It pretty much sets up the animal to an awful ending.

I have two dogs, an Alaskan Malamute (Mackenzie) who is 7 and a Mix Breed from the SPCA who is 8 (Lexie). Lexie gets very anxious during thunderstorms. She tries to hid in tight spaces, scratches on the carpet and works herself up until she is panting heavily. Mackenzie didn't use to react to thunderstorms but after watching her older sister she now is afraid. Mackenzie is drawn to electronics during storms, she trys to nudge them-it's really weird. She also wants to be as close to us as she can, Lexie just roams the house looking for a good hiding space but Mackenzie tries to climb all over my husband and me. Lexie is more affected by the thunder while Mackenzie watches the windows for lightning and then runs to us when it happens. Any suggestions as to how I can help ease their fears and help not make every thunderstorm tramatic for everyone??

Rule #1: Never project your fears or anxiety about what happens during a storm. Pack leaders must always be a source of calm, assertive energy. Rule #2: Be proactive. Do you remember an episode I did with a dog named Gavin, the ATF dog? If you can find it, it's a great example of the information you're looking for and can trigger your imagination. Rule #3: Never let your dog hide. Go to her calmly, use the leash, remember to position the collar high on the dog's neck (like at a dog show), and start your own show at home. Change the atmosphere...for example, practice dog training, agility, or anything that can challenge her mind. Remember, dogs can only do one thing at a time, so we need to distract with something that you guys are really good at together. I didn't forget about Lexie. Just let her join the pack. Patience is the key when we have fearful members of the family.
