My darling gray tabby cat, Smokey died last summer. I'd had her since I was in 6th grade! She helped me through some major growing pains, and when she died, we buried her in my parents back yard where she loved to play and rest, and put a stone above her buried body. I love her.

Was the arrival of your Pet Kid(s) planned or is there a story?

Gigi was totally unplanned. I visit www.dogsindanger.com quite often, and I saw a Golden Retriever mix puppy about to be euthanized (via gas, no less).

I couldn't stand to know that a sweet puppy that was so highly adoptable would be so cruelly killed if I didn't do something.

So, I drove 250 miles (each way) and switched shifts at work to get him. While I was up there, I went into the cat room, where, allll the way at the bottom kennel was a tiny, very old looking Chihuahua. She had all of 2 teeth, and was emaciated.

I took her.

Now she is so healthy, and she is so so so loving. I don't know exactly how old she is, but vets estimate she's around 12 or 13. It's very likely she was a breeder at a puppy mill.

Some red flags were that she didn't know how to walk on solid ground, she was totally unsocialized with people and other animals, she didn't know how to walk on a leash, she'd never been spayed, and her feet were oddly shaped (as if standing on chicken wire).

But now she's safe, and in my loving arms every night as we sleep in my bed.
