- I just got my new puppy November 6, 2011, I named her Alexis (Lexie) and she is a Lhasa Apso Shih Tzu Mix, because of her I have started researching all about this mix and From what I have read The Lhasa Apso Shih Tzu is a popular designer Shih Tzu mix, also known as Shih Apso or Lhasa Tzu. The Shih Tzu was developed by breeding Lhasas and Pekingese type dogs together in Tibet. The American Canine Hybrid Club and the Designer Dogs Kennel Club both recognize the Lhasa Apso Shih Tzu. The Shih Apso's weight ranges from 13-20 pounds and they stand 10-15 inches tall. The Shih Apso's coat comes in all colors and is normally long and silky with some curls. These dogs do shed a little and require frequent grooming. Shih Apsos tend to have the itchy skin of the Shih Tzu, also Due to the small mouth of the Shih Apso they tend to have crowding and other dental problems. The Lhasa Apso Shih Tzu is a highly affectionate, friendly and outgoing breed. They are an extremely active and energetic dog that is generally good with children. They are not Yappers, and usually will only bark to alert you to something. The Lhasa Tzu is very intelligent but they can be stubborn and difficult to train. Their average life expectancy is 12-15 years. A few things that Differentiate A Lhasa from a Shih Tzu and Visa-versa, Shih Tzus are less wary of strangers and more friendly. Lhasas tend to be protective and are based on standards a larger breed. Lhasas also have a good bit of length to their muzzle, and a less pronounced eye (more oval shaped), while the Shih Tzu has a very, very short muzzle and a round, large eye. Both breeds are incredibly devoted to their family members. Lhasa is the hardier breed than the Shih Tzu, as it is without the breathing problems. The Shih Tzu is a Chinese dog that was bred to look like the classic lions that guard ancient palace facades and are ubiquitous in the country's mythology. This silky canine has long and luxurious hair with a curled tail that can seem, at times, to merge with its coat.The Lhasa Apso originates from Tibet. The Tibetan Lhasa Apsos is one of the original forms of domesticated dogs in the world! The texture of its coat is coarser than that of the Shih Tzu. One of its most notable features is a distinctive underbite that postures for ferocity but somehow comes off as lovable. Both of these breeds were employed in the ancient world as guardians of their respective premises. A Historical/Modern Context of the Lhasa TzuA keen sense of intelligence characterizes this unique Shih Tzu Lhasa Apso cross. They draw from two different cultures as icons of spiritual guardianship, with monks on the Tibetan side and royalty on the Chinese side.People who monitor the ongoing political situation in these regions will appreciate the significance of adopting a dog with these two specific backgrounds into their family. This puppy embodies a significant dual heritage, which can inspire a feeling of hope that peace and resolution can come to any situation
