Was the arrival of your Pet Kid(s) planned or is there a story?

My niece first had Cubbieduke and was not able to take care of him, she gave him to me along with signing over his papers. This came at a time when I lost and was still mourning my beloved Irish Setter, Quincy. Cubbieduke was a God-send, I cannot imagine him living anywhere else. He is a good 4-legged companion and is a member of our family.
